Molokini Crater and Turtle Town

If you want amazing snorkeling trips in Maui, visit Molokini Crater. This world-famous, crescent-shaped volcanic islet sits just off the Maui coast. This is our first snorkeling destination on our Molokini Crater Snorkeling Tour. The water is crystal clear with visibility up to 150 feet. It feels like swimming in an aquarium—but much more exciting!

Under the water, you’ll float above colorful coral reefs and see more than 250 kinds of tropical fish—many found only in Hawaii. It’s one of the top snorkel locations on the island of Maui for a reason!

When you think it can’t get better, we head to Turtle Town. This calm, colorful spot is home to Hawaiian green sea turtles! These gentle giants cruise the warm, clear waters near the shore, often alongside schools of tropical fish and blooming coral gardens. It’s a peaceful, magical place that snorkelers of all ages fall in love with.

Snorkel the crater walls of Molokini or swim with turtles at Turtle Town. Our Maui Snorkel Tours let you explore both in one unforgettable day. Plus, we’ve got all the gear, expert captain & crew, and even meals included—just bring your sense of adventure!

Marine Life You Might See

When you go on a Molokini Crater Snorkeling adventure, you’ll encounter some of Maui’s most fascinating marine life. In Molokini Crater’s clear water, you can see bright butterflyfish, yellow tangs, and Moorish idols. Keep an eye out for the playful parrotfish, whose vivid hues stand out dramatically in the pristine blue waters. You might also spot Hawaii’s state fish, the Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a, swimming in and out of the reefs.

At your second stop, Turtle Town, the marine life shifts from colorful fish to the majestic Hawaiian green sea turtles. Snorkeling here lets you swim near these gentle creatures as they glide peacefully through the water or rest quietly on the coral reef. Turtle Town is also home to trumpetfish, surgeonfish, and even spotted moray eels hiding among the rocks. Molokini Snorkeling and Turtle Town offer an exciting way to see Hawaii’s wonderful sea life!
